Zoning is the single biggest lever there is on what a ducted system costs to run, and it's the one part of a ducted job we won't quote as an optional line item, every system we put in has a Zonemate Milieu in it as standard. Zone plan off the room-by-room load
Before any hardware, we take the ducted heat load room by room and decide the zones: which rooms share one, which stand alone, and which barely get used and only ever need to be open or shut. The plan is what makes the 30–40% real, so it's done properly, not to a template.

Damper type per branch
Variable-speed dampers go on the living areas that need to modulate 0–100% for comfort; constant-speed on the spare bedrooms that only ever need to be open or closed. Right damper on the right branch keeps the cost sensible without giving up control where it matters.

Sensor placement
Where a zone needs to hit a real room temperature rather than just return-air, we place an optional Zonemate Smart Sensor in it. That's how a bedroom targets 21° in the bedroom, not 21° at the unit in the roof.

Control board and Milieu tablet
Up to 12 zones land on one board, a second board goes in when a large home or fitout needs 24, and where there's more than one ducted unit we wire them back to a single Milieu tablet instead of a controller each.

Do I actually need zoning, or is it an upsell?
You need it. An unzoned ducted system conditions the whole house every time it runs, bedrooms included, and zoning is the single biggest lever on what that costs, 30–40% off the running bill. That's why every ducted job we quote has a Zonemate Milieu in it as standard rather than as an extra we tack on to lift the price.
How many zones do I need?
It's sized to the house, not sold by the zone. Around 6 zones suits most family homes, 12 covers a double-storey and all fit on one control board. Only a large home or a commercial fitout needs the second board that takes it to 24. We work the number off your room-by-room load, not off a package.
What's the difference between variable-speed and constant-speed dampers?
A constant-speed damper is either open or shut, fine for a spare bedroom that only ever needs to be on or off. A variable-speed damper modulates airflow anywhere from 0 to 100%, so a living zone eases back as it nears temperature instead of slamming closed. We put variable-speed where comfort matters and constant-speed where it doesn't, so you're not paying for modulation on a room that never needs it.
Will it work with my ducted brand?
Yes. The Milieu plays with every ducted brand we install. Mitsubishi PEA-M and PEAD-M, Kaden ducted and the rest, with no bridge or third-party interface bolted on. It's the only zoning brand we fit precisely because it isn't fussy about what it sits in front of.
Can one tablet run two ducted systems?
Yes, and it's the reason we specify it on the bigger jobs. The Milieu tablet runs more than one ducted indoor unit off the same wall interface, so a two-system double-storey in Clyde North or Officer gets one screen for the whole house instead of a separate controller for each unit, and the phone app is the same UI again.
What warranty do I get on the zoning?
5-year controller + 5-year dampers + 6-year on our workmanship. The parts warranty covers the Zonemate hardware; our six years covers the install: the wiring, the damper fit, the sensor placement, the things that are our fault if they go wrong. Better than six years of it is covered end to end.
