Whole home water filtration

One unit on the incoming main, so the shower, the washing machine, the dishwasher and the hot water system all run on filtered water — not just the kitchen tap.

Where it goes: On the incoming water main, before it splits off to anything else

Everyday benefits

Filtered water everywhere it matters.

A whole-house filter goes on at the point of entry, so every one of these runs on treated water rather than just the kitchen tap.

Kitchen. The tap you fill the kettle from and the one the kids drink out of. Chlorine taste and smell go, and so does the jug in the fridge and the case of bottled water in the boot.

Six ways to do the same job.

From a covered unit you'd happily have on the front fence to plain housings on a side passage. All of them filter; they differ on how they look, how much they cost and how often you touch them.

Puretec

What we fit most

The covered units. A flat aluminium cover instead of a rack of exposed housings, ten finishes on the FilterWall, and a ten-year manufacturer warranty on the unit.

  • 10-year manufacturer warranty
  • Ten finishes on the FilterWall
  • Three stages with a bypass
  • 30 to 60 L/min across the range

BWT

Where it earns its place

Plain housings and a self-cleaning option. Cheaper to put in, and the only range here with a filter that flushes its own mesh instead of taking a cartridge you replace.

  • House and Rain versions for tank water
  • Backwash filter, no cartridge to change
  • 1 yr parts & labour, 3 yr parts
  • 10" and 20" jumbo housings
Puretec FilterWall F Series
Premium

FilterWall F Series

Puretec · Freestanding or wall mounted

Three-stage filtration behind a flat aluminium cover, in ten finishes. The one to pick when the unit is going somewhere you'll look at it.

  • Flat aluminium cover
  • Ten finishes
  • Four models, F3 to F6
  • 10-year warranty
Puretec FilterWall IM2
Enhanced

FilterWall IM2

Puretec · Semi-recessed, in-wall

Sits into the wall rather than on it, so it disappears almost entirely. Four finishes. Really a new-build or a renovation decision, because the cavity has to be there.

  • Semi-recessed
  • Four finishes
  • Filtered water to every tap
  • Chlorine, chemicals, sediment, PFAS
Puretec WH2-55 AMC
Practical

WH2-55 AMC

Puretec · Wall mounted, covered

The WH2 twin with a protective aluminium weather cover over it. Most of the tidiness for a good deal less than a FilterWall.

  • Aluminium weather cover
  • 20" cartridges
  • 55 L/min
  • 1" connection
  • 10-year warranty
Puretec WH2 Series
Essential

WH2 Series

Puretec · Wall mounted, uncovered

Dual-stage filtration in heavy-duty housings, no cover. Does the same filtration job as the covered units and looks like plumbing, which on a side passage nobody sees is the right trade.

  • WH2-30 · 10" · 30 L/min
  • WH2-55 · 20" · 55 L/min
  • WH2-60 · 20" · 60 L/min · 1.5"
  • Sediment, chlorine, chemicals, PFAS
BWT Jumbo Twin
Alternative

Jumbo Twin

BWT · Wall mounted, uncovered

BWT's twin cartridge system, in 10" and 20" and in house or rain versions. The rain version runs different cartridges, which matters if you're on tank water.

  • 10" and 20" jumbo
  • House and Rain versions
  • Sediment, taste and odour, chlorine
  • 1 yr parts & labour, 3 yr parts
BWT Backwash filter
High sediment

Backwash filter

BWT · Wall mounted, self-cleaning

Flushes its own mesh to waste instead of using a cartridge you replace. Sediment only — but where the sediment load is high it saves you a cartridge every few months.

  • Manual or automatic
  • 20 mm to 150 mm
  • Sediment only
  • Mains or tank
How it looks

Flat aluminium cover, ten finishes.

This is the part most filtration gets wrong. A whole-house unit lives on an outside wall where you and the neighbours look at it for the next decade, so the FilterWall is a flat aluminium cover rather than a rack of exposed housings — and it comes in ten finishes so it can disappear against a fence, a render or a weatherboard. Five neutrals and five custom colours. Worth knowing before you choose: the custom five carry a 2-year finish warranty rather than the full term, and Buttercup Cream is F5 and F6 only.

  • 10-yearmanufacturer warranty
  • Aluminiumcover, not exposed housings
  • Outdoorsmounted on the main
Ten finishesButtercup Cream

A neutral finish, covered for the full warranty term.

Keeping it working

Cartridges, and why we show you rather than charge you.

Cartridges roughly every twelve months on mains water, sooner on tank. Once it's installed the change is a ten-minute job you can do yourself, and we show you how on handover rather than making it a service call.

  1. 1

    Tell us what you've noticed

Taste, smell, grit, cloudy water, dry skin, or just a general feeling that you'd rather not drink it straight. What you've noticed is the most useful diagnostic there is, and it usually points straight at which of the three is right.

    ~ 5 min
  2. 2

We look at the water and the plumbing

Mains or tank, what the pressure is doing, where the main comes in, and whether the cupboard under the sink has any room in it. On tank water we want to know about the roof and the tank as well, because that changes whether UV is warranted.

    at the quote
  3. 3

A quote with the honest recommendation in it

Including when the answer is a cheaper unit than you asked about, or nothing at all. If your complaint is drinking water and you were about to buy whole-home filtration, we'd rather tell you that than take the bigger job.

    within 12 hrs
  4. 4

    Installed by a licensed plumber

Not a handyman with a spanner. Filtration ties into your potable water supply, which means backflow protection and doing it to the standard. Same six-year workmanship warranty as anything else we fit.

    install day
  5. 5

Shown how to change the cartridge

On handover, on your unit, with you holding it. It's a ten-minute job once a year and there is no reason you should be paying anyone to come out and do it.

Tell us what you’ve noticed.

We haven’t put a price on this page yet, deliberately. What the right unit costs depends on your water, your pressure and where it physically has to go, and a “from $X” with none of that behind it is bait.

Send the symptom and you’ll get a real figure with the reasoning attached — including the times the honest answer is a cheaper unit than the one you asked about.

Whole home questions

Straight answers.

Still want a human? Call (03) 5947 8000.

What does a whole-home water filter actually remove?

Sediment, rust, silt and dirt on the first stage, then chlorine taste and odour on the carbon stage. On tank and rainwater setups we add UV, which handles the biological side. It is not a desalinator and it is not a softener, and anyone telling you a single cartridge does everything is selling rather than explaining.

How often do the cartridges need changing?

Roughly every twelve months on Melbourne mains water for a normal household. Tank water, bore water, or a house that has just had mains work in the street will chew through the sediment stage faster. Once the unit is in, the change is a ten-minute job you can do yourself, and we show you how on handover.

Will it drop my water pressure?

A little, and any plumber who says otherwise is guessing. The way to deal with it is sizing: on a house with good pressure you will not notice, and on a house with marginal pressure we fit a larger housing so the filter is not the bottleneck. We check the pressure at the quote, not after.

Do you install Puretec on tank water?

Yes, and it is where whole-home filtration earns its keep most obviously. Tank water carries sediment and organics that mains water does not, and a filtration plus UV setup is the standard answer through the hills and the smaller townships east of us. We spec it on what your tank actually delivers rather than off a catalogue page.

Can I have whole-home and under-sink?

Plenty of people do. The whole-home unit handles sediment and chlorine everywhere, and the under-sink unit gives you a dedicated drinking tap with a finer filter on it. If budget only stretches to one, tell us what is actually bothering you and we'll point you at the one that fixes it.

Where does the unit physically go?

On the incoming main, which is usually near the water meter or where the main enters the house. It needs to be accessible enough to change a cartridge and out of direct sun, because UV degrades the housings. We find the spot at the quote and show you before anything is committed.

Quoted Mon, installed Fri

Took the old gas Rinnai out, dropped in a Reclaim heat pump, sorted the VEU rebate so it came straight off the price. Bloke on the phone is the bloke on the tools, refreshing.

Rebate handled, didn't lift a finger

The VEU paperwork looked scary online. They filled it all in, I signed once at the quote and once on the day. Rebate was already in the price. Painless.

No surprises on the invoice

Quote number matched the invoice exactly. No 'we hit unexpected wiring' story at the end. Nice change.

Split install in half a day

Bedroom Mitsubishi went in before lunch. Neat pipework, brackets straight, temp checked before they left. Would use again for the lounge.

Family business, feels it

Answered the phone myself, quoted the job, showed up to install the job. That trail of trust doesn't exist with most of the bigger mobs anymore.

Hot water died on a Sunday with three kids in the house. Answered the phone, had a temp loaner running by lunch, new iStore in on Tuesday. That's service.

Follow-up call was a surprise

A week after install they rang to check the heat pump was running quiet and the app was set up. First tradie who's ever followed up after payment cleared.

Actually got up in the roof

Had three quotes for a ducted system. These guys were the only ones who actually crawled into the roof. Middle of the pack on price but installed cleaner than the others would have.

Cleaned up like nothing happened

Full ducted retrofit over two days. When they left the roof cavity was tidier than they found it and the driveway had been swept. Small thing but it matters.

Walked me through the Milieu tablet, showed the wife how to use it, showed us the compliance cert. Ten minutes of teaching that other installers just skip.
