A continuous flow unit has no tank, which removes the failure that ends most storage systems: there is no anode to replace and nothing standing full of water for fifteen years. What it does have is a heat exchanger and a burner, and those want looking at like any gas appliance.

What happens on a continuous flow gas hot water install.

    Most continuous-flow swaps can be priced from a picture of what's there now and where it's mounted. Send it through and you'll have a number the same business day.

    Gas line and outlets checked

    What else is on the gas run, and how many outlets you use at once. Those two things decide the unit size and whether the existing line is up to it — both worked out before you commit.

    Fixed price with both controllers in it

    Indoor and outdoor controllers are part of the quote, not an accessory added later. So is the old unit's removal.

    Old unit off, new unit on

    Old tank drained and disconnected, or old continuous-flow unit removed. New unit bracketed, plumbed and gas-connected. Where a tank is being replaced, the pipework usually needs a small rework to suit.

    Gas pressure test, then hot water at the tap

    Pressure tested to AS/NZS 5601, unit commissioned, temperature set, and we run hot water at the actual taps rather than declaring it done at the unit.

    Certificate and warranty registration

    Gas compliance certificate emailed within 24 hours and the manufacturer warranty registered in your name at the same time.

What size continuous flow do I need?

16 L/min suits a smaller home with one bathroom, 20 for most family homes, 26 where two showers might run together. We size on how many outlets could realistically run at once.

Is Thermann made by Rinnai?

No, Thermann is Reece's own brand, made by Dux. It's a common mix-up. Parts are stocked in every Reece store in Victoria.

Should I go continuous flow or a heat pump?
